At Tahquamenon Falls State Park there are two separate sections. The Upper Falls is by far the more popular, because of the dramatic falls, as you can see in Living Waters. The Lower Falls, entered just a short distance away (but a 4 mile hike, if you want to get there from the Upper Falls by foot), are charming, though less dramatic.
The Lower Falls are back some distance from the walkways, due to the large pool below them, where you can rent boats and paddle closer. Consequently, this was shot with a short telephoto zoom, at 135mm, which on my crop sensor Pentax K-5 is roughly equivalent to a 200mm lens on a full frame or 35mm camera.
I wanted to slow down the water flow, to give it a softer look, so it was shot at 5 seconds exposure.
For processing, I did some initial adjustment of blacks, whites and contrast in Lightroom 5, then converted to black and white in Photoshop, making the yellows a bit stronger (the tree “pointing the way” is bright yellow in the original), and deepening the greens a bit, then finished in Lightroom with a slight warming tone.
