Uisge Ban Falls, near Baddeck, Nova Scotia

Water of Gold - silky, golden water flows over the rocks below Uisge Ban Falls

There are so many beautiful places to visit and photograph!

A number of years ago we visited Nova Scotia and enjoyed its rugged coastline and beautiful scenery. The one section of the Province that we were not able to see was Cape Breton Island. We had seen a few photographs and heard of its beauty, so we finally made that trip at the end of September.

If anything, the scenery exceeded our expectations, with hikes out headlands into the sea, waterfalls, bald eagles, and more. One of the most enjoyable hikes was not far from the town of Baddeck, in Uisge Ban Falls Provincial Park. We hiked out to the falls (about a mile each way), and scrambled up to the upper level, to see portions that can not be seen from below.

Along the way, the stream below the falls was rushing through the forest, and the minerals in the water, and shadowy afternoon light, gave the water a golden cast.
